Wednesday, September 10 – Kelly Durbin
Jazz pianist, Kelly Durbin, with a group of exceptional jazz artists, presents music drawn from the song books of Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Richard Rodgers, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Walt Disney films.
Kelly Durbin, piano
Kelly Durbin is a faculty member at The University of Texas at Dallas, where he directs the Jazz Ensemble and teaches classes in jazz theory, improvisation, MIDI, jazz history and jazz keyboard. He received his Masters of Music degree from The University of North Texas. Durbin was a long-time member of the Marchel Ivery Quintet and the James Gilyard Ensemble, and is currently working with the Wayne Delano Trio. He has performed at numerous jazz concerts, festivals, and workshops. His professional credits include work with The Woody Herman Orchestra (under the direction of Frank Tiberi), David “Fathead” Newman, James Clay, Chuck Rainey, Billy Hart, Ed Soph, Lynn Seaton, Cornell Dupree, Hank Crawford, Sebastian Whittaker, Greg Bissonnette and Roseanne Vitro, to name a few. Kelly has performed on numerous television programs, and can be heard on recordings by James Gilyard, Freddie Jones, Wayne Delano, and Chuck Willis.
Lyles West, bass
As leader and principal composer of his improvisational ensemble Quartet Out, bassist Lyles West fuses the folksiness of his Appalachian upbringing with the sophistication of New York City, where he performed regularly with Jazz greats Junior Cook and Clifford Jordan, as well as with Blues giant Charles Brown. He was a member of the Chapel Hill, North Carolina improvisational ensemble Sphota (which to this day is legendary in the area) from 1978-82. He has recorded with Texas Tenor Marchel Ivery and with Café Noir.
Dennis Durick, drums
Dennis Durick, born and raised in the D.C. area, came to Texas to study music in Denton. He keeps busy performing with many different artists and projects that are musically diverse. He has recorded with Dave Liebman, Dave Zoller, Joe McBride, Tony Hakim, Pete Brewer, Larry Spencer, Leora Salo, Kellye Gray, and Brian Moore. Currently Dennis is working on projects with Quartet Out, Flipside, Café Noir, Bill Lohr, Lyles West, Paul English, Circo, and his own band, Brouhaha.
Wayne Delano, sax
Wayne Delano is perhaps the most versatile saxophonist in the metroplex. He has recorded on dozens of international smooth jazz recordings with artists such as Joe McBride, Hugh Masekala, Bobby Lyle, Nestor Torres. He has also toured and performed with bebop legends Maynard Ferguson, Woody Herman, Michael Brecker, Phil Woods, and Freddie Hubbard, among others. While a student at UNT, he was a member of the One-O'Clock Lab Band.

Monday, October 20– Victor Soto, pianist
Mary Medrick, head of the piano division, invites
Victor Soto to perform, lecture and engage students in a discussion about composers and their compositions. Featuring "Moonlight Sonata" by Beethoven and Rhapsody Op.79, No. 2 by Brahms, the recital/lecture will also include works by Chopin and Liszt.
Born in Panama City, Panama, Victor Josué Soto began his music and keyboard training at the age of 12. Victor holds a piano performance degree from Southwest Minnesota State University, Marshall, and a Master’s degree from Minnesota State University, Mankato. In January 2006, Victor joined the music faculty at Mountain View College in Dallas, Texas, where he currently serves as head director to the music department and artist in residence and founded of the Mountain View College Concert Series, and in 2007 published his first textbook, Foundations of Music.

Wednesday, November 19– Kathryn Evans & Friends
Winston Stone, clarinet and recorder; Enric Madriguera, guitar; and Michael McVay, piano, join Kathryn Evans, soprano, for a musical evening. The repertoire includes "Hirt auf dem felsen" by Franz Schubert for soprano, clarinet and piano;
Renaissance pieces for soprano, recorder and guitar; and selections from Evans and Madriguera's recent concert "Music from the Spanish World" for soprano and guitar.
Kathryn Evans is an accomplished recitalist and chamber musician, performing in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and in Europe. Evans has completed tours of music for voice and guitar with fellow faculty member Dr. Enric Madriguera in Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Mexico, and released the CD Voz y Guitarra with Madriguera in October of 2003.

January – Dallas Pro Musica
The Dallas Pro Musica is dedicated to the re-creation and realization of vocal music from the Medieval, Renaissance and Early Baroque periods, with occasional forays into the 20th and 21st centuries. The ensemble, based at UT Dallas, consists of faculty members and local musicians.

February – Eddie Healy, guitarist
Eddie Healy currently teaches at UT Dallas, Eastfield College, the Spring Creek and Central Park campuses of Collin College and the Gray School of Music. His original compositions are performed by both professional and student groups in the area. Some were utilized as competition pieces by the Collin College One O’Clock Guitar Ensemble when it received first prize in the Large College Ensemble category at The University of Texas at Brownsville Guitar Ensemble Competition in 2007.

April – Elledanceworks
After the performance of several works, Elledanceworks Dance Company co-directors Ronelle Eddings and UT Dallas faculty member Michele Hanlon will lead an open discussion with the choreographers and dancers. The company has been performing regionally for almost eleven years, presenting concerts, participating in educational and choreographic residencies, and performing as guests of other arts organizations and institutions. |
