14. Chilean classical guitarist Perez performs
a moving tribute to Miguel de Cervantes.
The event intertwines portions of the tale
of Don Quixote with 16th century guitar
pieces, many of which were referenced in
the text. Perez has performed in over thirty
countries. Classical Guitar Magazine proclaims
he is “a master guitarist with true
star quality.”
His interest in guitar playing started
at an early age through his father. He graduated
with top honors from the Arts Faculty of
the University of Chile where he studied
under Ernesto Quezada.
He was awarded top prizes in major international
competitions in Europe and America, winning
first prize in: X “Alirio Díaz”,
Venezuela 1996; XX “René Bartoli”,
France 1997; VI “Printemps de La Guitare”,
Belgium 1998; III “Forum Gitarre”,
Austria 2000; XIV “Fundacion Guerrero”
Spain 2000.
He has issued four CDs and recorded at
several European radios. The third one:
“A Flor de Llanto” was released
in march 2004 in Spain by Opera Tres with
south american music and the last one “HECHIZOS”
features latin-american music from 20 century.
He has played with orchestras in France,
Belgium, USA, Portugal, Russia and Chile.
His performance with Orquesta Sinfónica
de Radio y Televisión Nacional de
España was transmitted in live for
27 countries by European Broadcasting Union.
His recitals include more than twenty countries
in America and Europe.
Carlos has participated in prestigious
Guitar Festivals such as: Guitar Foundation
of America, Volos, Vienna, Esztergom, Bratislava,
Mikulov, Fabritio Caroso, Caracas, Saltillo,
Martinique and others, and has given master
classes and lectures in many Universities
and Schools of Music in USA (North Carolina
School of the Arts, University of Cincinnati,
Wake Forest University, Indiana University,
and so on).
His arrangements of “Traditional Chilean
Songs and Dances” were published by
Henry Lemoine Editions (Paris, France 2001).
