Overview
Strategically located in the Telecom Corridor, home of the second-largest high-tech economy in the U.S., the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering & Computer Science at UT Dallas is in the midst of an intensive growth campaign that includes a new state-of-the-art 192,000-square-foot interdisciplinary research building, the addition of Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Bioengineering, and the creation of the $16 million Texas Analog Center of Excellence.

Additional Facts
- The Jonsson School has more than doubled its research funding since 2004 and plans to double it again in coming years.
- Research investigations at the school involve such cutting-edge technology as carbon nanotubes, microelectromechanical systems, semiconductor design and manufacturing, wireless networking, cochlear implant technology, medical imaging, speech recognition and cybersecurity.
- The Jonsson School has significantly increased the size of its faculty in recent years, hiring top recent graduates of Stanford University, Cornell University, Purdue University, Georgia Tech and UCLA as well as seasoned professionals from Rutgers University, USC, UC Davis, Freescale Semiconductor and elsewhere.
- The school is in the process of adding new programs and departments in materials science and engineering, bioengineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering and systems engineering.
- U.S. News & World Report ranks the Jonsson School’s undergraduate programs 60th among the nation’s public schools of engineering. The school’s graduate programs rank 46th among public schools of engineering. The school has risen nearly 20 places in the national rankings since beginning its current growth initiative in 2003.
- The Jonsson School operates the largest internship and cooperative education program of its kind in Texas, averaging more than 500 student placements a year at Dallas-area high-tech companies.
- The school’s computer science program ranks third in the state and 29th nationally based on faculty members’ research productivity, according to a June 2007 article in the journal of the Association for Computing Machinery.
- The school’s graduate program in software engineering ranks second in the state and 24th worldwide based on faculty members’ research productivity, according to the Association for Computing Machinery article.
