Steps After Admission for Freshmen Students

All Freshmen

This site contains everything you need to know to take you from the moment you are admitted to the first day of class. Consult the Campus Map for building locations.

• Notify us of your intent to enroll
• Pay the $100 enrollment deposit
• Apply for financial aid
• Submit proof of vaccination against bacterial meningitis
• Apply for on-campus housing
• Apply to join a living learning community
• Attend freshman orientation
• Receive course credit from placement tests such as Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and College Level Examination Program (CLEP) if eligible
• See a list of special programs such as the Collegium V honors program and the McDermott Scholars scholarship program
• Decide what courses you are going to take with the Course Lookup
• Register for classes
• Sign up for Comet Camp
• Sign up for Success Camp
• Pay for classes
• Get a parking decal using the Parking Permits Webstore

A Final Requirement for Some Undergraduate Students

UT Dallas uses the Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA) to measure student proficiency in the basic areas of study for fulfillment of the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirement. In addition, UT Dallas requires THEA as a placement test (measurement tool) for UT Dallas courses. Those who do not meet UT Dallas THEA standards will have a registration hold placed on their records.

Additional Requirements for International Freshmen

All International Visa Types:

• Submit the results from your TB test to the Student Health Center (for all students born outside the US)
• Apply for a passport with your home country government (If you are currently outside the US)
• Review procedures needed to enter US (If you are currently outside the US)
• Request Airport Pickup from student organization (If you are currently outside the US)
• Meet with an academic advisor and obtain a registration clearance code before registering

F and J Visa Types Only:

• Submit documents to receive I-20 (or DS2019) from International Student Services Office (ISSO)
• Use I-20 (or DS2019) and passport to apply for an F or J Visa
• Attend Freshmen Orientation (and the International Student Session) or attend International Student Orientation.
