Titanic
Main Lobby Case – 2nd floor
One hundred years ago this April the unthinkable happened. The world’s greatest ship at time,  the so-called unsinkable Titanic of the White Star Line, struck an unseasonable iceberg during  the night south of Newfoundland on its maiden voyage from Southampton, England to New York  City. In 1985 the wreck was found on the ocean floor at a depth of 12,415 feet. The world was  shocked and more than 1,500 people perished. The display shows many of the library’s books  about Titanic along with images of the ship and newspaper reports.

The "History of Medicine" display highlights titles from the collection that describe the history of medicine from Hippocrates to the human genome. See how mankind has dealt with plagues, cholera, polio and other diseases. Discover how well we have, or have not, followed Hippocrates’ admonition.

The Age of Impressionism
Copy Center Case – 2nd floor
The display features books on Impressionism and highlights the works of artists who in 1873 were part of a group of 30 Parisians. Their works were denied in an exhibition at the prestigious Salon de Paris because they refused to conform to the realist style accepted by the Ècole des Beaux-Arts (the French National School of Fine Arts). The group mounted an independent exhibit, and the style evidenced therein became known as Impressionism, a term first used by Louis Leroy in a scathing criticism of Monet’s Impression, Sunrise. Originals of these same seven artists selected for our display – Pissarro, Renoir, Monet, Morisot, Manet, Degas, and Sisley – are also featured at Fort Worth’s Kimbell Art Museum in The Age of Impressionism : Great French Paintings from the Clark through June 15.
