The Carolyn Lipshy Galerstein Women's Center

Welcome!

The Galerstein Women's Center provides an open door to a welcoming, supportive haven for students, staff and faculty.  We provide meeting, reception and study space, and a lending library with gender-related books and videos. We offer professional counseling services, provide student scholarships, internships, volunteer opportunities and organizational advising.

The GWC is home to the only dedicated lactation space on campus for nursing mothers. In partnership and collaboration with campus departments, community and corporate sponsors, we develop an annual calendar of programs and events designed to highlight gender issues, such as LGBTQ education, child care and parenting, diversity and mentoring, women's history and research, and the support and advancement of women in science, technology, engineering and math.

GWC initiatives are guided by the Office of Diversity and Community Engagement. We provide leadership in recruiting and retaining a prosperous and successful environment for women through mentoring, unique projects addressing diversity, leadership and support for girls and women in STEM fields of study, as well as support services for the LGBTQ community and development of child care resources.

We invite you to visit the Center and find out how you can become involved.

Engineering Week Encourages Girls in Math, Science

In the field of engineering, the ratio of men to women in the workplace is nearly 9-to-1. To combat this staggering gap, a national movement called “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day” has emerged to show girls the possibilities and the fun in math and science.

Last week, UT Dallas’ Office of Diversity and Community Engagement welcomed students from Irma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School as part of the national program. The visiting girls worked together in groups on activities such as “speedy shelter,” “roving the moon” and the “blimp jet challenge.” They also met with members of the Texas Instruments Women’s Initiative and the UT Dallas chapter of Society of Women Engineers.
